Internships

For extraordinary or holiday office closures, please check the news updates on the main School of Architecture website.

IMPORTANT NOTE

To legally begin your internship, every single step of the administrative process must be fully completed.
DO NOT start your internship activities if:
– the official training agreement (progetto formativo) has not yet been signed by the tutors
– you have not received the final activation confirmation email
Prior to completing these steps, your university insurance coverage is not active and any hours logged will not be recognized or credited.
In brief, the required procedure involves the following stages:

  • Selection of the host institution/company
  • Placement matching (abbinamento)
  • Degree Program validation
  • Signing of the training agreement
  • Official internship activation
  • Execution of internship hours
  • Conclusion and credit recognition

The **Degree Program** includes a mandatory curricular internship activity to be carried out at approved companies, public or private institutions, professional firms, or university DidaLabs:

To start the internship, students **must** have acquired at least **120 CFU** and passed **all compulsory exams** from the first year of the Degree Program.

Before commencing the internship, the trainee must complete the Workplace Health and Safety Training Course designated for MEDIUM RISK (4 hours of General Training + 8 hours of Specific Training), as required by Italian Legislative Decree D.Lgs. 81/2008.

Please Note: Before requesting a formal placement from the Internship Office, students must directly contact the company or laboratory to verify their availability to host them as a trainee.

ATTACHMENT 2

In order for professional work experience to be recognized as a curricular internship, it must be evaluated and approved in advance by the Didactic Committee.
Full Internship Equivalency: 225 hours - 9 CFU
Partial Internship Equivalency: 150 hours - 6 CFU (to be completed with an additional 3 CFU from workshops/seminars - see LINK).

To request an evaluation of your work experience, please send an email to the internship coordinator (raffaella.paoletti@unifi.it) with the subject line "EQUIPARAZIONE". You must attach your official **WORK ACTIVITY REPORT** (see required templates) in PDF format—fully signed and stamped by your employer.
An evaluation response will be issued within 30 days.

Upon approval, submit the physical, original copy of **ATTACHMENT 2** (complete with a €16.00 revenue stamp / marca da bollo) to the Design Campus reception desk (via Sandro Pertini 93, Calenzano), accompanied by the following documentation based on your employment type:

  • For SALARIED / WAGE EMPLOYMENT:
An employment contract of any type, stamped and signed by the employer, along with at least one official payslip (busta paga).

  • For FREELANCE / VAT-REGISTERED WORK (Partita IVA):

  • For NON-CURRICULAR / PREVIOUS INTERNSHIPS:
The original training agreement (Progetto Formativo), official timesheets/attendance logs, and proof of traceable stipend/compensation payment.

IMPORTANT POLICIES:
> The professional work experience must align directly with the academic curriculum and be equivalent in nature to an educational internship. Within the workplace framework, the applicant must have been supervised by a competent professional serving as a corporate/company tutor.
> It is strictly forbidden to claim internship credits twice (e.g., if the experience has already been counted toward another degree). For this reason, students must submit a self-certification declaring that the internship experience submitted has not been utilized for credits in any other study plan or higher education institution.

PLEASE NOTE:
The Degree Program WILL NOT consider:
- Equivalency requests for self-employed work or personal businesses
- Employment contracts or appointments for teaching roles
- Work carried out in aggregate or unstructured formats
- Incomplete equivalency applications
- Any other forms of employment not explicitly detailed above

The Didactic Committee will review applications and issue an official decision within 30 days of receiving the COMPLETE documentation. Applicants will be contacted ONLY in the event of an incomplete application or a negative review.

The School of Architecture and the Degree Program have officially decreed that:

  1. The internship **CANNOT** be carried out at professional firms or practices owned by individuals with familial ties or kinship to the student;
  2. The internship **CANNOT** be carried out at the professional firm or practice of the student's thesis advisor (Relatore);
  3. The internship **MAY** be carried out within one of the university's DidaLabs, where the Laboratory Director **MAY** also serve as the student's thesis advisor.
